Our History

Our History Dignity Health Connected Living evolved from a rich history of serving seniors in Northern California. The journey began in 1968 when Golden Umbrella started as a Project Find Grant, actively seeking out and assisting isolated, needy, and disabled seniors in Shasta County. This led to the 1970 Grand Opening of a Multi-Purpose Senior Center, providing a central hub for social, physical, and intellectual engagement. In 1979, the Shasta Senior Nutrition Program (SSNP) was founded, dedicated to preserving seniors' independence through meals, transportation, and activities. These two foundational organizations then merged in July 2017, becoming Dignity Health Connected Living, a non-profit subsidiary of Mercy Medical Center and Dignity Health.
We serve those who are most vulnerable, while advancing social justice for all. We accomplish this mission through various programs for seniors, adults with disabilities, and families in need.
